Our Commitment
At ScanCAD International, we embrace emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to improve efficiency, innovation, and customer service. However, human expertise remains at the center of every project. AI assists our team, it does not replace engineering judgment, quality assurance, or customer collaboration. Additionally, we maintain completely separate, non-AI enabled systems for all data that is subject to export controls or other security restrictions.
How We Use AI
We may use AI-powered tools to assist with:
- Administrative tasks
- Internal research
- Product development
- Documentation and content creation
- Marketing communications
- Workflow automation
- Data organization and analysis
AI is a helpful and powerful tool, but it is not treated as the ground truth at ScanCAD. Any and all AI work is treated as an iterative process that fundamentally requires human engagement and approval. All AI-assisted outputs are reviewed by qualified team members before use. Human oversight is required for all deliverables.
This is a period of unprecedented change and development, as such ScanCAD invests heavily in cultivating awareness on both the emerging technical capability of AI systems and evolving industry standards and best practices. We strive to ensure we are staying ahead of emerging best practices around transparency, accountability, and security.
We will Never use AI to assist with:
- Anything involving Export Controlled (ITAR) or Restricted Data (i.e., CUI)
- Final and keystone step engineering review
- Final design decisions
- Approval of manufacturing specifications
As with any enabling technology, AI represents another way to empower our team; AI does not in any way change the way we approach accountability. We remain fully accountable for our output, regardless of which systems were used to create it.
Protection of Customer Data
We recognize that many projects involve confidential product designs, CAD files, engineering drawings, and intellectual property.
Unless specifically authorized by the client:
- Proprietary information is not used to train public AI models.
- Confidential data is handled according to our security and confidentiality practices and agreements.
- Access to project information is limited to authorized personnel.
Data protection and confidentiality are two of the most important components of modern AI governance. ScanCAD strives to stay on the forefront of this progress and protect customer data.
Accuracy and Verification
AI systems do make mistakes and can generate inaccurate or incomplete information. The traditional heuristics we use to quickly assess the validity of human output are insufficient to properly evaluate AI output. Accordingly, ScanCAD takes the stance that all critical AI output is reviewed completely to ensure correctness and completeness. Any engineering or otherwise critical output is reviewed in its entirety by multiple team members prior to release.
Ethical Use of AI
We view AI systems as nothing more than another tool to be used in the service of our vision and mission as a company and team. We are committed to implementing them in ways that empower and embolden our team and customers.
Policy Updates
As AI technologies and regulations continue to evolve, this policy will be updated periodically to reflect new capabilities, security standards, and industry best practices.
