Did you know that in 2022, counterfeit parts are touching nearly every industry in record numbers?

We’re talking phones, automobiles, defense and military systems… counterfeit parts that reach every part of society and undoubtedly directly affect you. It’s a scary thought.

So, how exactly does this happen? In essence, chip fabricators make huge numbers of parts and while only a percentage of them pass testing as meeting specs. These are sold as the part. The defective parts are then sold to others for other applications. In some cases, counterfeiters obtain these scrap parts and repackage, label and sell these parts as new, tested and approved parts, thereby entering the supply chain.

These parts may pass initial tests with manufacturing and get into the field but then fail when stressed in some way, resulting in very expensive costs for the manufacturing, potential physical risks to end users or worse.

Consider your car. Your average car has 125+ microprocessors in it and these control everything from tire pressure monitoring, musical preferences, indoor temperature, seat setting preferences, anticollision settings and more.

In essence, this issue is getting more and more complex and widespread. Supply Chain Management Review shares some helpful tips on how to “fight this multi-headed monster.” Beyond this, know that we can help.
