Did you know: ScanCAD has provided forward customer data compatibility for over 34+ YEARS
Please let us know if you know of any other company that has done this. Yes, customer data from jobs created on ScanCAD systems in 1990 under the MS-DOS operating system can be opened, used and processed in 2024 under the Windows 11 operating system. It is difficult to find any other software company that has maintained forward data compatibility over such a long time period. This speaks to ScanCAD’s commitment to supporting our customer’s most valuable asset: their data. All too often software companies come out with a new release, or go out of business or merge with another company and disregard forward customer data compatibility. In many cases, companies intentionally obsolete their products to force customers to purchase new products and they don’t provide a bridge or pathway to move data forward. This has never been a problem for ScanCAD customers and is one of the key reasons why we are a global leader in the industry.
A look back to 1990
ScanCAD systems operated on a MS-DOS PC with 80486 processors with about 1% of today’s RAM and hard drive capacity.
We have now had 33 annual software releases between 1990 and 2023 supporting at least five PC operating system changes and many more optical scanner hardware/driver changes.
Currently in 2024
ScanCAD systems operate on multicore processors with 32 GB RAM and 1+TB solid-state drives running Windows 11.
ScanCAD customers benefit from knowing that they can access their data over the long term, regardless of technology changes. This honors ScanCAD’s vision of “making complex technology simple.” Nothing is more complex or miserable than discovering your valuable data is no longer usable on current software and/or hardware platforms. Data is a corporate asset that ScanCAD protects and respects. You can trust that we have made this a priority and will continue to do so for decades to come.
